collectible

A collectable or collectible is typically a manufactured item designed for people to collect. In this respect, they are distinguishable from other subjects of collections, which may also include natural objects (e.g., butterflies) and objects manufactured for purposes other than collecting (e.g., stamps). Some objects designed for other purposes, such as toys, become so popular among collectors that they are later marketed specifically to that audience. The high price for certain older Star Wars action figures is a good example of this phenomenon since the figures were originally intended to be purchased as toys rather than collectibles. The earliest collectibles were included as incentives with other products, such as cigarette cards in packs of cigarettes. Popular items developed a secondary market and sometimes became the subject of "collectible crazes". Eventually many collectible items came to be sold separately, instead of being used as marketing tools to increase the appeal of other products. wiki collectible

Costume jewelry

Costume jewelry (also called fashion jewelry, junk jewelry, fake jewelry, or fallalery) is jewelry that is made of less valuable materials including base metals, glass, plastic, and synthetic stones, in place of more valuable materials such as precious metals and gems. Costume jewelry is usually inexpensive, and often flashy. Its main use is in fashion, as opposed to "real" (fine) jewelry which may be regarded primarily as collectibles, keepsakes, or investments. Originally, costume or fashion jewelry was made of inexpensive simulated gemstones, such as rhinestones or lucite, set in pewter, silver, nickel or brass. Modern costume jewelry incorporates a wide range of materials. High end crystals, CZs or cubic zirconia simulated diamonds, and some semi-precious stones are used in place of precious stones. Metals include gold- or silver-plated brass, and sometimes vermeil or sterling silver. Lower-priced jewelry may still use gold plating over pewter, nickel or other metals; items made in countries outside the United States may contain lead. Some pieces incorporate plastic, acrylic, leather, or wood. wiki Costume jewelry

cubic zirconia

Zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), sometimes known as zirconia, is a white crystalline oxide of zirconium. Its most naturally occurring form, with a monoclinic crystalline structure, is the rare mineral, baddeleyite. The high temperature cubic crystalline form, called 'cubic zirconia', is rarely found in nature as mineral tazheranite (Zr,Ti,Ca)O2 (and a doubtful mineral arkelite), but is synthesized in various colours for use as a gemstone. The cubic crystal structured variety cubic zirconia is the best-known diamond simulant. wiki cubic zirconia

Gemstones

Shop wants you to understand what you're buying. The four most popular factors used to measure diamond quality are cut, color, clarity, and carat weight.

Gemstones Color

The highest quality gemstones are recognized by the jewelry industry by the purity of hue, depth of tone, and color saturation. Gemstone colors come in a variety of hues: one gemstone may have a variety of hues, and many gemstones may be available in any one hue. Prices for these varieties are based upon factors such as durability, rarity and popularity. Brighter, more vivid colors with a medium saturation are the most sought-after. Typically, very pale or dark shades, or gems with grey-tinged edges tinged are less expensive. However, personal tastes will drive desirability, regardless of price or popularity.

Gemstone Clarity

Due to the way gemstones form in the earth, almost all contain tiny fractures called inclusions. Generally, flawless gemstones are very rare and valuable, however even most high-end gemstones are at least slightly included. The best value is found in gems that are lightly- to moderately-included, yet some gemstones, like emeralds and red tourmaline, always have visible inclusions, so those inclusions detract less from their value. Certain inclusions can also indicate from where in the world the gemstones were mined. Clarity has the most impact on lighter-hued gemstones, because the inclusions are most visible.

Gemstones Cut

Gemstone cuts are similar to diamond cuts. However, unlike diamonds, with gemstones there isn't an "ideal" cut geometrically configured for maximum brilliance. A high-quality gemstone cut is one that presents the most even color, exposes the fewest inclusions, and displays the majority of the gemstone weight when set in jewelry.

Gemstones Size

Like diamonds, gemstones are measured by the carat, which is one-fifth of a gram. Size sometimes, but not always, has an impact on the gemstone’s price. Gemstones like the Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire rarely occur in large sizes, so larger stones typically fetch higher prices. Amethyst, Citrine, Blue Topaz and Amber more frequently occur in large sizes, so a larger stone may be less pricy than the same sized Emerald. A one-carat Blue Topaz and a one-carat Ruby may be the same weight but not the same size, due to gemstone density.

Gemstones Enhancements

Nearly all colored gemstones available have been enhanced. Gemstones that have not been enhanced but exhibit desirable color and clarity are very recognizable by the extravagant price they command. Some enhancements, such as heating, are an expected part of the polishing and finishing process and are accepted by the jewelry industry, and by Shop Jewelry.

Emeralds, like all colored gemstones, are graded using four basic parameters – the four Cs of Gemstones: Color, Cut, Clarity and Crystal. The last C, crystal is a synonym that begins with C for transparency or what gemologists call diaphaneity. Before the 20th century, jewelers used the term water as in a gem of the finest water to express the combination of two qualities, color and crystal. Normally, in the grading of colored gemstones, color is by far the most important criterion. However, in the grading of emerald, crystal considered a close second. Both are necessary conditions. A fine emerald must possess not only a pure verdant green hue as described below, but also a high degree of transparency considered a top gem.
